I would like to get your input about the reliability of the 2010 mini cooper s.
I was drooling over at a dealership yesterday but had second thoughts because of the horror stories of my friends about steering, electrical system reliability..
They certainly are a nice little car and i was thinking of buying one but due to its high price, questionable reliability and high cost of repairs i ended up buying a Miata instead,Not saying you shouldnt get one but looking them over and doing the research it just wasnt for me..
my buddy just had his replaced under the lemon law.. the engine seized ... they replaced the engine but could never get the car running right so they just replaced the car after a battle.
Just remember that it's engineered by BMW and this is coming from a 2007 BMW 530i owner. Great drivers cars, reliability can vary from ok to downright awful.
Not everyone has a horror story about the Mini Cooper. Hubby has a 2006 Mini Cooper. The only issues we have had outside of regular maintenance have been a mushroomed strut (I think that's what it was called) and just had to have an oil leak fixed (gasket). We didn't know about the oil leak since nothing was on the garage floor. It's a fun car to drive and still looks great 6 years later.
If reliability is your main concern, then it's not a good choice. They are exceedingly fun cars to drive, but they certainly have their issues and their quirks. Personally, I would prefer to own one new and know that the maintenance was properly done from day one. I also would not want to own one of them outside of the warranty period. The people I have found that had an incredibly positive experience in terms of reliability, have generally been the people that bought them new and took very good care of them.
