Racial Climate (Boise: find a job, live, stores)

My husband, our roommate, and I are all planning on moving to Boise from Phoenix in the next 6-9 months. My hubby and I are originally from California and our friend is from New York. We understand Boise is a much different environment than what we've grown up with (metro-areas with large number of ethnicities) so we are wondering how accepting locals are of other races/cultures. My husband is Caucasian, I'm Mexican, and our friend is Black.

Any info you can give me would be extremely helpful, thank you!

I know of Boise a bit, the area is great and I believe that it is racially accepting of all races but, you will always have a token idiot occasionally more likely a teenager.

I've lived all over the country and the racial climate in Boise is better than it is in Michigan, Ohio or Pennsylvania. In some ways it's better here than it is in Phoenix (the last place I lived), don't really hear people complaining about illegal immigration and it's assorted by-products. People in Boise are very friendly, so no need to worry.

It's all good; just don't come expecting a large community of if your friend doesn't like truly being a minority.

Some people can don't mind that; other people need to be around a lot of people with similar characteristics (I don't want the argument to extend beyond that as to why or whatever, but it seems to be somewhat of a truism amongst humans).

I wouldn't worry. The Valley has a decent Hispanic population, although that's about it. At least among the younger people everyone seems to get along.

These are the Y2Y Dems for Boise proper, and frankly I'm surprised that they show a AA population of > 8% ? I would have thought it was much lower ? The Hispanic population of 7.5 % is MOL what one would expect.

Boise also has a fair number of refugees from Bosnia, Bhutan, Somolia, Rwanda, India, Russia and various Eastern Europe countries, and Utah
This explains the growing number of ethnic stores and small ethnic food stores around the city. There are also some community gardens in the city that are just for refugees to grow food and sell at places like the Saturday Market downtown.

Those stats aren't accurate at all. There's no way Boise/TV isn't ~90% white or higher.
