My stepson is looking for a good-but-reasonably-priced divorce attorney. If you know anyone who has been divorced in the past few years, ask them if they liked their lawyer.
Thanks. Probably won't get any answers, but I'm on this site a lot, so I thought I'd throw this out to you.
Please excuse this comment, because it probably won't be received well...but far better advice for your step-son is to tell him to do what it takes to make this a more amicable situation.
He will possibly spend tens of thousands of dollars on a "good" divorce attorney that will get the would-be couple to the same point that they would reach if they would simply grow up and be responsible adults. Work out a reasonable agreement together (without attorneys) for the divorce.
Barring major violence or criminal activity by either party, the attorneys are going to arrive at joint custody, with spousal and child support.
Save the $$$. Be responsible adults...or spend thousands in a feeble attempt to "stick it to the spouse."
As a really crazy alternative...perhaps both parties could live up to their vows and commitments, work together, and work it out. If not, keep up the family tradition of divorce.
In light of Tim In Hollywood's points, Christie Browning is an excellent mediator. John Gottman's marriage workshops in Seattle are phenomenal--truly worth every penny and more time effective than months of counseling. If anyone is struggling with a relationship, his workshops are incredible. The Art & Science of Love: Weekend Workshops for Couples
I really like what Tim in Hollywood and benchfan had to say... On the same note, although I'm not going through a divorce, my partner and his children and I have recently moved in together and we are experiencing growing pains that highlight the work we need to do as a couple. I sent him the info on John Gottman's workshops. Does anyone have additional resources for marriage counseling or couples therapy here in Boise, Meridian or Nampa/Caldwell?
Tim and Sue Furness are a married couple who counsel married couples and also do individual counseling and sessions all together. I know someone who has seen them. She sees Tim, he sees Sue and they all sit down together and it has been amazingly productive. http://jeffersonstreetcounseling.com/

For someone who is telling others to "grow up," your attitude is very juvenile and judgmental. The reality is that sometimes one spouse wants out because they've broken their marital vows and found someone else, and not matter how much the other spouse wants to work the marriage out, the cheater has no interest in that. Finding a good attorney has nothing to do with wanting to "stick it to the spouse," it's about protecting your rights and making sure the divorce is handled equitably. The inquiring person is obviously very concerned about the well-being of their family member, and doesn't need your negativity and short-sighted comments. This clearly isn't the forum for that.
