Hi All. My niece is graduating high school next week. I am giving her cash as a gift, but I was also thinking of giving her a book as well. Looking for something inspirational, but not tacky/cheesy. Something hopefully she will keep always. Any suggestions?

That sounds like a very nice personal touch. But as far as suggestions go, what is she like...what has moved or impressed her in the past, is there any book, author or idea that she has seemed especially moved by, or provoked her to think about things more deeply.

Oh! The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss

I give that to people often.

I had a portion of that read at my wedding! That's a great idea.

One of my go-to inspirational books is "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran. It's sort of spiritual. I'm not religious at all but I am always lifted up by the beauty of his writing and his message. It helped me through some tough times. My mom gave it to me shortly after I graduated from college.

One recommendation would be The Crock of Gold by James Stephens. It is of the genre which today might be called "adult fairy tale" or somesuch thing; however, it is not saccharine and is very subtly wise and sophisticated, which most of this genre is not. It is not a recent book.
