I would highly recommend "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. I just got a copy from readitforward.com and I could not put it down. It's set in the near future which is a very possible reality, where people spend their whole lives as avatars in OASIS, a very real Sims/WOW game.

Even if you are unsure of the subject, it is a highly amusing adventure story and the eighties references are abundant (for me, a plus!)

If you enjoy The Hunger Games, you'll probably like Divergent by Veronica Roth (Book 1 of a trilogy).

Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler was the most frightening book I've ever read.

While it might not pigeonhole perfectly in this genre, I thought David Mitchell's "number9dream" was worth recommending.
