I loved his Gateway Heechee Saga books and Space Merchants was a great book. Pohl thought big, but big in a fun way. I knew he was an editor, I didn't realize he was also an agent.
From HuffPo - Pohl's career began in 1937 with the sale of a poem, "Elegy to a Dead Satellite: Luna," to Amazing Stories magazine. He went on to edit Astonishing Stories, Super Science Stories, Galaxy and If magazines, as well as an original anthology series, Star Science Fiction. As a book editor, he worked on Samuel R. Delaney's "Dhalgren" and Joanna Russ's "The Female Man." As a literary agent, Pohl represented Isaac Asimov, Algis Budrys, Hal Clement, Fritz Leiber and John Wyndham.
I have enjoyed a number of his stories years ago..
they may be enjoyed with cheese dip, chips and 3am.
Just thought of a particular novella I loved..
"The Gold at the Starbow's End", which I own in a
copy of Analog magazine, March 1972.
The image of a starship retrofitted to a wood-panel
station wagon sticks in my mind. Have to read it to know
what I'm talking about.

away in the basement well.. get crackin' because
you can buy new ones ! it's worth it ! seek and find.

"The Gold at Starbows End" is one of my favorite stories ever. It somehow represents what science fiction is about, the melding of the universal with the mechanics of science fiction. The journey is always the point, not the gold at the end.
His short stories are some of the best of his generation.
Oh, I hadn't heard that he died. I loved his work, and own several of his books.
