I'm coming toward the end of Machines Like Me, And People Like You - and really like it! I also just downloaded Saturday after reading this.

A prolific writer..., what should I read next? What is his best book?

I did notice that nowhere on the cover is ^ that second part of that Machines title - And People like You. It's found on the inside cover:

Good to know you liked Machines Like Me. Dowloaded it yesterday from my library. I've read and recommend the following:
Atonement
Amsterdam
Saturday
Solar
I have Nutshell but not yet finished.

Chesil Beach is mentioned in Machines Like Me. It triggered my memory because I would also recommend On Chesil Beach by Mr. McEwan.

I thought Chesil Beach was heartbreaking. The only other one of McEwan't that I've read is Saturday; it was excellent.

Got the kindle borrowed and I can't wait to read it.

Finished Saturday: Great read!

Spoiler
There's the point where he's back from the fish monger and everyone starts to arrive. First Daisy, then Theo. When Theo arrived, his phrasing is such that I thought for a second there that Baxter had arrived with him! Then, my worst fears were realized when Rosalind arrived. In the back of my mind, I thought red BMW - red herring? lol
