I prefer printed books (the ease for reading, the smell, the touch) but recognize that they will soon be totally replaced. As young people grow up used to kindles and other soon to be invented devices they will not have the same attachment those of us who are used to printed books do. How many law students can do legal research off line nowdays? Same with other occupations. It makes me sad.
Oh I hope they won't be totally replaced! Speaking as one who would spend hours as a child in the library, opening books on subjects I knew nothing of, simply because they looked interesting.....
I'm not against things like internet (obviously) and ebooks but there is still a place for "real" things....
I too loved browsing as a kid in the library. I went to a closed library in Maine once where you had to give the name of the book you wanted to see and it was so disappointing.
I am still debating whether to get a Kindle or not. My sis in law loves hers. I like the feel and look of a 'real' book but we travel often and lugging around heavy books isn't fun. So a Kindle would be fantastic for travel. Kindle has recently released it's UK version as well. Hmmm....
The main selling point seems to the ability to bring your book with you. How many books can people read while on their vacation? Does anyone need 75 books with them for a two week trip?

My trips are always longer than 2 weeks and sometimes my books are very thick hardcovers. Often I'll have a second book as well.
Not that I wouldn't love a Kindle (or the equivalent thereof.. hint, hint, Santa!), I tend to buy a lot of my books simply by browsing the book stores and seeing covers that catch my eye.
Well then you should definately have your laptop with you, in which case you can download alot of books in rtf, pdf format and read that way.
The battery on my laptop only lasts 3 hours and there isn't always a outlet in my row on a flight. I do sometimes listen to audiobooks when I fly.
