I've always loved Alanna from Tamora Pierce's Lioness Rampant series.

James Frey...........as in the James Frey's A Million Little Pieces: I don't care that his memoir was somewhat, ok maybe a lot, fictional the main character in that book has stuck with me for years.

We need to start a list of the most annoying characters, and I am going to stick Bella Swan on that list!
Lisbeth Salander - great choice! Liked her a lot. Very tragic.
(Even though I don't find Bella Swan annoying, just boring)

Charlie "Bird" Parker....John Connolly (Every Dead Thing is 1st book)
Bob Lee Swagger....Stephen Hunter
Det. Dave Robicheaux....James Lee Burke
Rand, Matt & Perrin in The Wheel of Time series....Robert Jordan
Noah Bishop & Special Crimes Unit (paranormal)....Kay Hooper
Dexter....Jeff Lindsay
Elvis Cole & Joe Pike....Robert Crais
Silent Joe....T. Jefferson Parker
Jesse Stone....Robert B. Parker

Too many books....so little time!
I liked Rand in the Wheel of Time series best but I've only read the first book so far. Two more volumes are waiting patiently for their turn on my shelf.
I also like Dexter by Jeff Lindsey even though I must admit the series is much better than the book and that doesn't happen very often! Maybe it's because Michael C. Hall is so hot?!?!

Edward Cullen - Stephenie Meyer (Sorry, but I love this guy. Not to be compaired to movie character, though.)
Claire Beauchamp - Diana Gabaldon
Alexander Barrington - Paullina Simon's The Bronze Horseman series
Logan 9-Fingers - Joe Abercrombie
Kay Scarpetta - Patricia Cornwell
Sookie Stackhouse + Eric - Charlaine Harris

And I guess I would find some more if I browsed through my books...
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot Wallander!

I'll add to the Dave Robicheaux fan list.

Love Sookie Stackhouse, and when I'm in an airhead frame of mind...Rupert Campbell-Black from the Jilly Coopers "Polo" series. English horsey jiggery-pokery. Requires few brain cells.

Perhaps somewhat of an 'anti-hero' in todays' PC age, but I really like Henry Chinaski (Charles Bukowski). Calls it how he sees it, takes no prisoners.
