Hi

im considering graduate school in Boston. Im from the west coast and have heard a lot about the public transportation, but dont know how much us true. I dont drive and was wondering if its possible to live comfortably in the city without a car?

Thank you

Yes, it's completely possible if your residence and work/school are near a subway or commuter rail station (or relatively near one if you have a bike or enjoy the walk).

With the exception of a few routes the bus service in Metro Boston is very poor.

MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston's Public Transportation System is helpful, and Google Maps will show all the rail and subway stations near any given address you enter.

I've been doing it for several years now. Between the T, cabs and Zipcar, it's a non-issue. This is a very walkable place.
