We are looking for an apartment in July/August time frame. 2 or more bedrooms with a pool. We do not want a house but rather a building. We have 2 children and we need something more modern and updated. We are moving (thanks to the military) from our brand new custom built 3000+ SQFT home to Boston which will be a huge shock but we are hoping to make the best of it. Everything i have found on craigslist is old and not updated. We have a housing budget of 2000-2800 a month. we know we want them to go to st johns catholic school so something close would be great but not necessary.

Does it have to be right in Boston? If you truly want a typical apt bldg style with a pool you can check into the Avalon apt blds. There are several in the surrounding area. There's one in Chestnut Hill and I know there are others also. They are typical apts with a pool, playground, etc. and in your pricerange.

How much space do you want at that 2000-2800 housing price point? Pools are tough to come by in boston due to the climate. Are you talking indoor or outdoors?

Assuming you are talking about St Johns in the North End? If you're talking about St Johns Prep, then that's a different story. You could probably find a house with a pool.

If you're talking Boston Proper, You might be able to find a building in Boston's West End that has a pool, that's basically the only residential area besides the waterfront that has been redeveloped post 1950... There's also a buildign down on huntington that I know has a pool, but it's mostly euro types and younger clientelle that doesn't sound like it would line up with your lifestyle... It's not a luxury builidng or family oriented.

The school is at 9 moon street which is just across the river? from the airport. It appears to be a few blocks from the revere house. As far as space at least 1000 SQFT. We know that housing is MUCH smaller there than it is here. We have a child that due to health reasons can't spend a lot of time outdoors so an indoor pool would be great but not necessary. We also want to be able to use the subway so we don't want to be way out of Boston.

Not sure how far from the school you'd want to live, but be aware that the public transit system here extends beyond Boston into some inner suburbs. The Chestnut Hill area, where Mbrtt suggested there's an apartment building that might work, is served by a light rail line which is an extension of the central city's subway system.

Chestnut Hill and points west would NOT be convenient to the North End and your kid's school, just FYI.

I am not familiar with all of the new development along the waterfront, but they are luxury (and expensive buildings) that might/should feature an indoor pool and would be a short bus/cab or circuitous T-Ride away from the North End and the school.

I know the intercontinental residences have a pool/spa, but it's probably way out of your price range... There mgiht be a modern buildign on Commercial Street that would have a pool. A pool in Boston is really a rare and tough to find commodity.

There are also some outdoor pool buildings in the Brookline/Brighton/Allston neighborhoods, but honestly, these are probably not what you are looking for (Tons of college students, and or Euro Imports keeping you up late at night with electronic dance music, seriously).

EDIT- just came up with a great idea, Charlestown's Navy Yard. There are several larger modern condo buildings that have been developed in teh last 15 years there; one of them is bound to have a pool and would be a reasonable walking distance or quick ferry ride away from Moon St and the North End.
