Hi All,

My husband and I are moving to Boston next month and our contract with AT&T is almost up. I noticed when we were in Boston last week that I was on edge in Somerville, parts of Cambridge and also in South Boston. I also had a few dropped calls.

In your opinion what company provides the best cell and data reception in Boston?

I've had maybe 5 dropped calls using Verizon in the past 3 years. During the year I had an iphone on AT&T for work I dropped significantly more, 5-10 a week.

It's rare for you to be on EGDE anywhere these days. AT&T launched LTE in Boston so upgrading to an LTE phone is always an option as well. As long as you stay away from MetroPCS you should pretty much have good service anywhere. Everybody has there dead/bad spots. No way around it.

Verizon has by far and away the best coverage of any provider. I use T-Mobile because it uses GSM and I travel abroad a lot. It's coverage is good, but everyone I talk to is happy with Verizon and Consumer Reports rates it first for the Boston area.

I've been pretty happy with T-Mobile the past 2 years. My only complaint is dropping to EDGE data in some areas which is really slow. Their so called 4G is super fast, not as fast as LTE, but not far behind.

I also have far less dropped calls then I did on AT&T, which I had for 5 or so years. Like the previous poster, I prefer GSM as it works in virtually every country. Only AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM in the US.

My calls get dropped in Arlington all the time. The bad news? I LIVE IN ARLINGTON. I have Virgin Mobile, which is on the Sprint Network.

AT&T has dead spots all over the country,But I must say verizon works the best in all of Mass with Sprint IMHO running second.

Biggest problem with Sprint is slow data. Their 3G is slow based on everything I've read, and their 4G WiMAX isn't very fast, either. Bottom line is I wouldn't go with Sprint if you need/want a fast data connection.
