A good friend of mine from college currently works for a CPG Company near the Chicago area as an Associate Brand Manager. He's thinking about possibly moving back to Boston to be closer to some of his family/friends. One concern that he has though is finding work in his field in this area. I know Boston has Gillette (Procter and Gamble) and Converse, but aside from that we are sort of lacking in the CPG sector. I know there are quite a few "Product Marketing Manager" positions available online for software companies, but he seems to be more interested in P&G/Unilever/Kraft/Frito-Lay, etc type companies. I told him to maybe expand his job search to the NYC area (Pepsico in Purchase, NY and Unilever in New Jersey). What do you guys think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think traditional product manager jobs in the traditional CPG industries might be hard to find in the Boston area but here is a quick list of local companies that are in the consumer sector and based in MA, SNE:

Ocean Spray
Teddie Peanut Butter
Welch's
Bose
Dunkin Brands
Necco
Puma
Adidas/Reebok
Stride Rite/Saucony
Sam Adams/Boston Beer
Zildjian
Steinway
Kaz
Sylvania
Timberand
Tyco Electronics

There are several Johnson & Johnson offices around here too - Cambridge, Raynham, and I think maybe Canton and Cumberland, RI?
