Would rt. 287 tappen zee to 95 to Dover be a good way to go? What about 295 south after leaving rt. 287? Would be going over tappen zee about 11:30 a.m.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Use Waze to find the best route.

Tappan Zee is typically good, but there's lots of construction now so the GW might be a better bet. Shouldn't have problems on 295.

I'm not sure why you're asking people on the Boston subforum, who are 5 hours away from said location.

I used to drive down to Atlanta once a month, but that was over ten years ago. To get to Dover, I would go Tappan Zee Bridge to I-287 to Garden State Parkway to NJ Turnpike to the Delaware Bridge.

If there is construction traffic around the Tappan Zee now, I would start my journey from Boston to hit that area late at night.
