Never heard of that, EVER. Growing up, NYC wasn't even on the radar (just some "far away" city with a baseball team you love to hate).

Maybe things have changed in the 4 or 5 years I've been gone, IDK. Probably all more reason to stay away now.
I guess the people I'm around day to day do skew my view. Unfortunately I dont have much choice but to listen to these folks.

Boston nightlife is okay...it could be much better simply by moving to a 3am closing time and allowing more bars /nightclubs in the outer neighborhoods

[i'm haitian-american] that its the most racist place in the world.

i'm not defending it; but, racism in boston is fairly average.

And so many seem obsessed with whether or not Boston is a world-class city. And maybe many locals are obsessed with how we measure up to NYC in different facets, but won't admit it??
I think it would be plain pointless to try to measure up to NYC. 12 times as many people and the metro area has 4 times as many. Comparing a little is good and can show us what Boston needs. Example, what ever NYC needs, Boston needs around 1/4 that and so on. I think Boston competes most closely with San Francisco, then Washington DC, then maybe Philly?

I've watched that easily 20 times. In that scene, you can see Conan O'Brien standing to his left.

Agreed, that was the point I was trying to make. I don't think I ever Boston described has having an "amazing" nightlife. But it is trashed quite a bit for nightlife here on C-D and in the real world relative to major cities. I'd say it's average among peers too, certainly not a void.

Agreed. I think the new liquor license laws were designed to encourage more bars/clubs in the outer neighborhoods (it's why Redd's in Rossie closed - they felt that preventing licenses from leaving neighborhoods devalued the licenses). I think 3am would be a great move. Honestly, just having bars close AT last call instead of 1/2 hour to an hour early would be an improvement. That's such a Boston thing. "Oh, last call is 2am? Let's stop serving people at 1 and start pushing people out at 1:30."
