Is it me, or do I find it wrong that this year's Boston Marathon is on April 15th this year?

1. The last time it was held on this particular calendar date, there were 2 explosions at the finish line on Boylston Street, resulting in the deaths of 3 spectators.
2. April 15 just feels "too early". The marathon coincides with Patriots' Day, which commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord, as well as the start of the American Revolution. The battles at Lexington and Concord were on April 19th. Any reason why this year's marathon/Patriots' Day couldn't be on April 22nd? That calendar date is closer to the 19th than the 15th. Plus, we wouldn't be holding it on a day that a regional tragedy occurred.

And it's not just the marathon that's "early" this year. The Red Sox season started real early too, on March 28th!

Um, because it is always held on Patriots Day, and its a holiday so lots of people have it off.

Cause the law is 3rd Monday in April, not the closest Monday to 4/19.
