Gruesome scene on Topliff St. in the troubled Mt. Bowdoin area of Dorchester. While the city is on it's way to becoming Ground Zero for the Covid-19 pandemic, this is a real black mark on the city.

Something tells me he wasn't the only one involved.

Looks like a sea of well maintained, at least on the outside, triple Deckers. Like many other areas of Boston and surrounding towns.

That's the thing about Boston, some of the most dangerous neighborhoods don't really look that bad on the surface or at least different from the average neighborhood there. Places like Providence, Worcester and Fall River have areas that look MUCH more run down and sketchy, yet aren't near as violent.

When a lot of inner-city Boston fell apart in the 1970s -but more so the 1980s- social cohesion was lsot due to abandonment, busing, racial tension etc etc... and gangs filled the void.

The gang culture took root in what were then blighted and neglected parts of the city. Even after 30 years of heavy investment and the growth of non-profits/grassroots organizations. The gang culture in Boston is significantly deeper and more splintered than in most major cities. Even the more violent cities have less of a deeply entrenched generational gang culture. IN Baltimore you hardly ever hear about gangs its just thousands of ndividual violent people on lawless blocks 'settling' scores-which is actually much scarier.

Its no LA but Boston's crime rate would be a lot lower today if it hadn't allowed so many gangs to proliferate so quickly 35-25 years ago.

As another poster, said-poorer and more blighted new England cities have less crime than Boston and especially Boston worse parts because they never got so heavily involved in the gang stuff. And they haven't had nearly the money and effort come into the city as Boston did.

Another 16-year-old teenager was shot two days after this in JP and a ten-year-old girl was shot in her home that same day in Roxbury.

And well maintained lasts for 20 feet around the corner until street furniture makes its way out...

Topliff street is one block from Homes Ave. Thats is HeadShotMafia (HSM) territory. A Boston-Brockton Gang/Record Label with a very big and bad reputation. Heres one of their videos shot along Homes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x1zWjpMSMA

These music videos usually get a couple hundred thousand views in a month or two. This one was 312k, they're known across the US. Yet they still run around Draper Street, Norton Street, Topliff, Geneva, Bourneside, Westville, Homes etc...

Articles in the Globe and MassLive about them (their Brockton activities)

Yea...in some ‘HSM’ logos are are everywhere. Basically make ‘HSM’ an LLC as a record label and they use these videos, apparel and music to money launder and promote themselves however they do choose. They have shows and roadside billboards as far south as New York City.
