Winthrop executions an example of increasing lone-wolf attacks motivated by white supremacy, experts say

https://www.bostonherald.com/2021/06...y-experts-say/

"An isolated attack by a lone-wolf extremist in Winthrop is an example of an escalating trend in white-supremacist-inspired violence nationwide fueled by social media and political polarization.
“Political leaders at the very top of our society actually encourage some of these right-wing fascist groups which has really emboldened them,” said Northeastern Professor Jack Levin, an expert on hate crimes and criminology.
Instances of racist, anti-Semitic and other hateful messages have exploded in recent years — including in Massachusetts where incidents are up 87%, according to a recent report by the Anti-Defamation League. Nationwide, the number of reports doubled in 2020 when compared to the prior year."

I've seen/heard nothing from/about his wife in any of the coverage.

I wonder how much she knew about her dear hubs?

Hate crimes and domestic terrorism are primarily white men.

I can't trust Rollins to not put a spin on things so I hope to hear the facts come out and speak for themselves. The rantings definitely don't help the case but the investigation is far from over. If anyone has ever known a statie or military folks then it should be obvious that they'd rush to help out at the scene of an apparent crash. They'd also be more likely to engage a violent suspect than to run and hide.

Rollins already made a comment about the shooter went by white people and the lived...

When asked if Allen targeted Cooper and Green because of the color of their skin, Rollins said Allen walked by several people who were not Black and “They were not harmed. They are alive.”

She didn't say whether the white bystanders responded to the accident in the same manner as trained law enforcement would, nor is it clear whether the white people engaged or even identified the guy as a threat the same way trained law enforcement would either. If I saw a crash and found out it was some violent psycho I'd be running the hell away and not creating an additional level of threat for said psycho if I could help it. A cop/ex mil might immediately engage or try to subdue.

But it is definitely possible or even likely that the guy went straight for them, we just don't know yet. But the media is already running with it so I doesn't really matter one way or the other until they investigate more.

Per this NBC Boston story:

"Two people who said they came face-to-face with the gunman on Saturday and were not shot described him looking right at them.

"The shooter was standing right beside me, with his gun on his side. We stared at each other and I shut my eyes because I didn't want to see ... the bullet coming," Bill Leach said.

A grainy image of the shooter shared by Melissa Gratta shows him a block from the scene of the truck crash holding what appears to be a pistol in his hand.

"He looked right at us and he didn't shoot," she said, adding that he easily could have."

I'd consider that pretty damning. Such a weird and tragic story.

Weird indeed. He sure sounds like someone who ... somehow ... became radicalized despite the appearance of a relatively stable life and social network.

Not suggesting this is the case, but it’s why I do loathe the whole ‘red pill’ scene as it tends to draw young men into extreme views like moths to a flame. It’s Fox News for Millenials.
