Hello all! My husband and I are traveling from California to explore the Boston area. We are considering a move east, and want to visit some areas north and south of Boston (but all within the Boston metropolitan area). Can anyone suggest an area to stay in that would allow us to explore the region with relative ease?

How long are you staying? I would suggest a few nights north and a few nights south of the city, rather than try to do both at once.

Unfortunately we are only there two days. I know that's not nearly enough time, but we're hoping to get an idea of the area. We are also spending two days in NY.

I’d consider looking for a hotel somewhere around where I-95 crosses I-90. Traffic can get bad there depending on time of day and day of the week, but if you time it right there’s no better jumping off point for looking north, south, and west of the city!

When are you coming? How do you intend to explore the area? Would agree with somewhere around 90 and 95..maybe Newton or chestnut hill.

We're coming in mid october...lol, we don't really have a game plan! We are considering a move east from California and we're interested in seeing some areas around Boston, not so much the city proper. We are also staying a night in the Worcester area.

Note that the weekend of October 22-24 is the Head of the Charles Regatta - you won't find a reasonably priced hotel for 50 miles. Further, October weekends are big for the college family weekends making hotels harder to find and more expensive.

Shudra is absolutely right-- somewhere off I-95 near the I-90 interchange would be best travel by car north and south of Boston, and it also places you in the middle of the western suburban sector. Hope you'll have stratospheric California level dollars to play with in the metro Boston market!

Thank you! Lol, frankly it couldn't be worse than our current housing situation in the Bay Area, CA. We are also looking at the Worcester area, as well as some parts of NY.
