I drive near those areas almost every day sir. Just drove down Morton St. this afternoon. As always, rolled my windows up between Harvard St. and Norfolk Hardware.

But why spend that kind of money on a house in Savin hill or ashmont area when you could just as easily spend your money in a safer neighborhood?

Wellesley park has some gorgeous homes, it's a beautiful neighborhood but it's surrounded by some very tough streets. I could see a single person buying a home there or someone who didn't want kids...but I wouldn't want to raise a family there. Just not worth the worry of what could happen.

If Dorchester were exponentially cheaper that would be one thing...but it isn't.

There are people out there who have a lot of passion about Dorchester. Not just dot rats but people who love the history and the old ornate homes. I don't know if folks hoped Dorchester would be the next Cambridge or Somerville but it doesn't seem to be trending that way. And that's ok...but to act like it's perfectly safe is silly.

I take it you have been shot several times at this point? Sorry to hear that.

For sure! Nowhere humans live in any numbers is ever "perfectly safe." It's a very diverse neighborhood with better and worse pockets, but from my visits to my kid I'm very pleased. It reminds me strongly of Bay Ridge Brooklyn from the 1980s/90s when I lived there. It's not for everyone but if you like the atmosphere of a multi-culti low-rise neighborhood there's a lot to recommend it.

I don't live in a bubble. I pay attention to the news on a National level. I know how bad Chicago is. I'm surprised that Boston has had just two murders this year but the areas in and around Boston have had plenty of murders.

"Compliance with standards, rules or laws." That's us. At least it's me, and those I grew up with. It's inculcated. It's why we do the right thing, even when nobody's watching. Individualistic perhaps, but conformative for sure. I'm in North Carolina enough to find it culturally lawless by comparison. To me, as a New Englander, night and day.

Hmm, standards you may be on to something but...laws and rules? Maybe I just don't understand what you're implying. I'm not so sure about New Englanders being more inclined to follow laws and rules than others. Do the right thing...okay generally speaking, sure. That's certainly my philosophy. If you're saying that New Englanders are obedient, I don't see it. I think up until recently we've been more compliant and respectful with law enforcement and authority figures than people in some other parts of the country, yes. But I know many areas of the country that are much more conformist and obedient than New Englanders, generally speaking....and I would place New York and New Jersey into the same category as us. Maybe we've just seen different side of New Englanders. New England has also produced a lot of criminals. I don't think New England culture has much to do with why the Boston murder rate is low right now.
