I visitied Boston for the first time 3 years ago and fell in love! I have been back 6 times since but never at Christmas time. I was supposed to last year and had to postpone till January and I was so bummed I missed the Christmas season.

I'll be in town Dec 14th - 18th. Can anyone suggest any good Christmas type things to do? Is the city pretty well decked out? Is there a Christmas tree in the Commons?

Thanks!

yup, there's a XMas tree in the Commons. if you click on the album link under my name, you see a few pics I took from the Common when I came to back to Boston last XMas (I think the pics were taken on XMas eve). other things to do

-ice skate at the Frog Pond
-see the Nutcracker at the (used to be?) Wang Theatre
-see the Urban Nutcracker, if it's still around
-not sure when this happens, or even if it will this year w/ the Filene's building closed, but check to see if there's going to be a tree lit up there. usually a fun event

ETA: just remember, when I was a younger, they used to do Santa's Village in the City Hall Plaza that was pretty cool, especially if you're bringing kids along

There's also a tree and a lot of Christmas-themed stands in Quincy Market, and lights along the mall on Commonwealth Av.

Check out this site (or go to the booth in Copley/Faneuil Hall) for half price tickets for the day.

With the stock market going down so fast... hope there will be Christmas spirits.

We all dress up in crazy costumes and walk door-to-door, collecting the candy given to us by the people who answer. Everyone gets pumpkins and carves funny faces into them and illuminates them with candles.

We're a little weird here in Boston.
