Hi All,
I am a US citizen that has been living in London for the past 3 years and I am going to be moving back to the States. I am in publishing and I am possibly looking for jobs in Boston and Cambridge. I have a few mapped out but I want to know what salary range I should be asking for. (It has been awhile since I’ve worked in the states). I have a master’s degree and 2 + years in publishing in London. I want to live comfortably, in a safe neighborhood, near the city so I don’t need a car and in a young neighborhood (late 20’s, early 30’s). I have roughly $500 in student loan bills per month. What would be a good salary to comfortably live in Boston with a master’s degree in publishing and 2+ years of experience? I appreciate all your help.
Many thanks

How do you define living "comfortably"? How much can you spend on rent per month? Do you want to live alone or with a roommate? What is your life like in London? Do you go out to eat a lot? Out for drinks a lot? Shop? Travel?

You are asking a very broad question, so some more specifics would be helpful.

I don't know of too many publishing houses in Boston. New York is the mecca in that department. However, Harvard Business Review is huge in the area, but they are located in Watertown. I had a friend who worked there and he needed a car to get there. I would also check out some of the academic presses in the area.

If you are looking for a younger neighborhood, look anywhere near downtown and you'll be fine. A decent 1 bedroom might run between 1500-1800/month.

There are some publishing houses here too. But it's true that NY has more. And there are some smaller and academic presses, as HowGoesIt said.
