I have family who moved to Boulder about 2 years ago. I have road-tripped there 3 times and each time I'm sent a bill for $5.75 for tolls. I understand that tolls are charged, I come from a state with ferry and bridge tolls. But this latest toll bill just arrived today, for a trip I made last June, and it's due next week. What?

Also, unlike where I live, I never see a toll booth. How do I pay a toll if there are no toll booths?

They take a photo of your license plate and send the bill to the address on file.

As far as the delay goes, that sounds like a screw up.

What toll road are we referring to? The E-470 from the airport?

If it's Boulder it's probably a combination of E-470 and Northwest Parkway.

The bill says Northwest Parkway and the location is NWP Plaza. I remember seeing a building off to the side of the highway, but it looked like an office, not a toll booth.

I’ve tried 3 different routes from my home in Washington and this happens every time! This bill is for 6/19/2019, it is dated 2/20/2020, due on 3/11/2020 and I received it yesterday.

Isn’t there a toll booth to just pay the toll in real time? My google directions and gps never explain how to navigate this.

E-470 and Northwest Parkway are cashless. There are no toll booths. You drive under a gantry with an RFID tag reader and a license plate scanner. If you're coming down I-25 just don't get off the freeway until you get to US-36 (Boulder Turnpike).

good thing you weren't in a rental car... that $5.75 would be over 10x (if you were lucky and they found you the FIRST inquiry). + the rental car company would add $40 - $70 to your charges for turning over your info to the toll company. Sometimes it is just not worth the 5 minutes you save using the toll road. Fortunately, other areas in USA and the world have ways for you to pay tolls at airport kiosks or filling stations (on roads with no toll booths).

Seems like a rip-off for unaware non-locals, but I’ve noticed that everything in Boulder is disproportionately priced.

Where in Boulder are you going ?

If the City of Boulder, there is no reason to use the NWP. If coming in on I-80, then down either US 287 or I-25, turn west on CO 119 and it takes you right to the City.

Unless you are going somewhere in far Southeast Boulder County (Superior, Interlocken, Flatirons Mall), using the NWP buys you nothing. Even then, roads like US 287 and CO 128 do the job.

Besides all that, coming 1300 miles from WA to CO, an added $6 to travel costs has got to be lost in the rounding off.
