The way to beat Ali was to get him to the ropes, work his body, and once he dropped his right to throw an uppercut, you blast him with a left hook to the jaw. This is the formula Eddie Futch used when he trained Frazier and Norton to beat Ali. Ali couldn't block a jab either, he moved straight back from it, so if you took a step in as you jabbed and followed up with a quick straight right hand you could drop him. Problem is, most heavyweights weren't quick enough to pull it off.
If Tyson were trained properly, by an Eddie Futch, he could beat Ali. He had a similar style to Frazier and he was faster and stronger than Frazier. The one thing Tyson would have to work on would be his jabs, which he didn't throw enough of in his fights, especially against Holyfield.
I think a prime Ali would of been a better matchup than a prime Lennox Lewis (while not saying that lennox is in ali's world.......)
i think it still would of been tough for mike - about a year and a half ago I rewatched all of his fights and remembed just how dangerous and dynamic he was
he did have good head movement, such a strong punch and a killer instinct
I could see Ali being more polished and smarter in the ring - also more experienced in fighting - it's also not like Ali couldn't take a shot, foreman, norton, etc all banged and it's not like frazier was feather handed
where I think Ali could get himself in trouble is being a bit too cute and leaving too many openings - it would be boring to fight the fight that would wear out tyson
which is why I think lewis with that tall posture and fierce jab would of just spent the whole fight frustrating and bruising mike before eventually dropping him

Get him to the ropes and work his body? Didn't work for Foreman! Rope a dope!!! Ali over Tyson 8 rounds just like Buster did it.
Ali in his prime after the Liston fight IMO. Tyson in his prime right around the time he fought Tony Tucker. I see this fight going exactly like Tyson-Tucker, only Ali winning a decision. Tyson couldn't beat Holyfield, certainly couldn't beat a prime Ali. I don't think Ali had the power to knock out Tyson though, and in his prime, Tyson not prone to quitting like he did later in his career (Lewis).
I don't think Tyson would have kept the mental discipline the way that Frazier did. I think a bigger guy that isn't scared always had the potential to beat Tyson.
This is one for the ages, of course. I like Tyson, he was as devastating of an offensive fighter as they come. He had more game coming in than Frazier did. Joe, for all his heart, his relentlessness, and even for all his head movement did not go inside as effectively as Mike. And what made Mike so dangerous of course was from that elusive upper body movement came big shots. But then Mike's weakness was above his shoulders; and as Alexus mentioned, not so much early on, but he hadn't been tested by the master of the psychological game, Muhammad Ali. It's like Ali himself said in regards to this hypothetical match up, "If he'd hit me, he'd kill me." So the question is, can Muhummad frustrate and anger and mentally dismantle Mike before Mike can take his head off? I have to say, yes.
