Default Looking too, but know area pretty well!

Merritt island isnt that great in my oppinion... Try viera, satellite beach, melborne beach... Or even stick to south orlando. Viera is a newer community, clean, great shopping... The older areas like merritt is, titusville, rockledge, cocoa... Are kinda tired look and feel... A tad more ghetto, but that is coming from someone who lives in cali, mid 20s, and have been looking to buy near family on space coast for a few years.

Not everyone is thrilled with the idea of living in a new, sterile cookie-cutter community lacking trees. There are some nice areas of Merritt Island, and some that aren't so nice....much as parts of Viera will be like in 10 years.

Oleander Pointe in Cocoa, just south of Cocoa Village on the Banana River are nice condos. Low foreclosure rates, high owner occupancy rates and very well maintained. Not in MI but just across the causeway.

I agree with the above post, although Viera is nice and new there is a definite lack of character and trees. Merritt Island is a great choice if you like trees, just drive south on Tropical trail from 520, and I came across a quiet complex behind the mall once, though I am not sure if they offer any amenities like a pool. It really just depends on what you like. Is there a reason you chose Merritt Island?
