Looking at HUD foreclosures and I see 4 units at the same location - on Banana Dr, Merritt Island Florida. All being sold at asking bid of $31,000. Is this a good value - or is Merritt Island not a good place to purchase a vacation / retirement condo? Appreciate any input - thanks!

Wow, 233 views and no responses. I think that's a City-Data record. I'm kind of curious too, does anyone know anything about the Sunset Bay condos on Tropical Trail as well? Maybe...??

This thread is over 2 years old and I still see several for sale. I don't think the OP ever got an answer. Is this a nice area for retirement? I'm probably never going to buy a condo after my last experience, however. I was in AL in a so-called "resort" and I could hear the man next door snoring. People say "use ear plugs" but I could never live like that. But for an investment or someone who is used to living in multi-family dwellings, maybe these are good deals.

Since the OP's first post 17 units have sold in that troubled complex, three of them for $19,000. When you see a complex with a lot of distressed sales, stay away. What looks like a deal can turn into a nightmare.

We are interested in this info too. Are also looking for a winter retirement home. We found some scarey things going on with distressed condos in Orlando area. HOAs going bankrupt and allowing amenities to go downhill and units being picked up at cheap prices and used as rentals to undesireable tenants. Also because of low prices are being sold to undesireable people. Many had serious drug problems. Would like to know of any nice areas in Merrit Island.

I would recommend you pass on those condos. They used to be crappy apartments that they tried to turn into condos.

I lived in sunset a few years ago. If you are going to buy a condo there watch out for HOA fees. You will find out they are quiet high and may go higher due to the economy and defaults on other condos. The condos themselves are very nice. I rented a 2 bed 2 bath with sunroon and the master bedroom was big enough for a king size bed, chest and dresser. My apartment was 1000 sq ft. Good luck to you.
