The same from me.

My Merritt Island friends will be staying in a neighbours store in Rockledge. Supposedly the building is solid concrete block, and has a generator and a safe room.

So I am hoping they will ride out the storm there if not in comfort, at least in safety.

Good luck to all of you.

A mandatory evacuation order is now in place for this area. Just heard from a cousin whose son drove up to his SC inland home for the duration, rather than staying in his third-floor condo - smart young man, as he got out prior to the mandatory order now in place.

Y'all be careful down there...stay safe.

Not good. Cat 4 predicted to be directly over Cocoa Beach at 8 AM Friday. Headed to the west coast this morning knowing that our little beach town is going to take a pounding this time.

Ya'll stay safe. Remember don't do anything dumb during or after the storm. Wait to use candles or portable generators till after the storm quits blowing. Don't use grills or generators inside the house or garage and watch out for live wires after the storm. Be careful with those saws! Don't drive through water. All roads become 4 way stops if the lights are down.

Over and out. Have to get back out and help with the last of the plywood. See ya on the flip side.

This storm looks nasty. Glad to hear many people are taking the necessary safety precautions. Praying for the best outcome here.

My Merritt Island friends have left, and will be riding out the storm in a factory/store in Rockledge.

The elevation in Rockledge is 17 feet according to the map- vs 5 feet at their house on the island.

17 feet is still WAY too close for comfort with the storm surge expected.

I'm afraid for them, and hoping for the best. I wish they would have left the state.

Wishing all of you in harm's way the best.
