I never pictured Sabine as being in the Bible Belt. I thought it was close enough to Caddo Paish to be more diverse. But just did a quick view of the Demographis and turns out it is 70% Evangelical. Learn something every day. I used to live not far from there up in Shreveport, and Sabine never struck me as being that Fundementalist. But that was a long time ago.
I grew up in a fundamentalist christian family and church.
I have never taken my kids to one.
Weekly, we would beg my mom and dad to let us skip church, or at least go try a different church.
Weekly, my kids beg me to take them to the luncheon at the Buddhist temple.
My children are more well adjusted than I ever was. I think that I am doing something right .
I hope we are kept informed how this controversy plays out.
Not surprisingly for a legal case, not much has happened. The first link gives the most up-to-date summary that I could find it is from the major New Orleans newspaper.
hehe. The kid answered "Lord Buddha" as the answer. That is fantastic. Buddha is more proof of an all knowing God with eternal love than the Bible or anyone in that book ever could be. The Bible is an immoral, murderous, blood-thirsty God of terrorism. Buddhism is eternal life, eternal compassion, and everything in-between!

Buddhism also teaches us to be non-judgmental...as well as to be compassionate and understanding. People interpret the Bible to suit their purposes or meet their needs...be it evil or otherwise. If one doesn't like what others say or do...just walk away and go somewhere else. No need to bash the Bible or anyone. Else you become just like those you accuse of being immoral or evil.
I hope for the boy's sake his mother does not attempt bring him back to the Sabine parish school. He would be more put upon now than before I suspect.
From what I gather the settlement doesn't involve much money, but is instead about changing the status quo at the school. I'm glad to see this: ending that type of harassment is more important than money.
The school was certainly asking for it. They were allowing blatantly unconstitutional practices in a public school. What did they expect?
