Hello!

My family and I are thinking about "possibly" moving to the Buffalo area. I have two kids a five and four year old. I am originally from Poughkeepsie, NY and I currently live in Southern Maryland. I really want to move back to NY (but not to Poughkeepsie) and I have been doing some research on Buffalo. It seems like a nice area but am not too sure. I know Buffalo gets alot of snow and below freezing temps. I am used to that.

I need some information on the area, good and bad. And also, most importantly, information on the schools since I have two school aged children. And also, jobs. Would it be hard to get a job in Buffalo? Any information that you can provide will be great. Thanks!

Jobs probably depend upon your skillset and education. What is your price range and what type of area do you want to live in?

Well, I am looking to live either in Buffalo or the outskirts. We are going to rent first before we buy. So, I am looking to pay no more than $1200 for rent. I am in the legal field (legal secretary, legal Assistant) and my husband is a mechanic (Diesel and Automotive).

As for your rent range, you could probably live pretty much anywhere you want. This could help in deciding what you are looking for: Amherst Apartments for Rent | Amherst NY Apartment Finder

Yeah you can get a really nice house in the burbs or city for $1200 (or less). Like CK mentioned jobs are going to be your biggest hurdle but mechanic type positions seem to be somewhat plentiful.

Also, in terms of schools, districts like Williamsville, Orchard Park, Lancaster, Frontier, East Aurora, Clarence and Iroquois, among some others have the best reputations. There are some good public and charter schools in the city of Buffalo too. You can look here: GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community or look up NYSED report cards(click on the accountability reports). I believe education.com is another website to look at as well.

Indeed.com is a very good job search site. It scrubs the job boards (or lets you eliminate them), it also scrubs from employer websites..

The job market is heinous in Buffalo, but you seem skilled and experienced...research cautiously!
