My husband is going to work at downtown area and we are trying to rent a 2 Br in a safe place near downtown Buffalo or the suburb area. We know Amherst, Williamsville and Orchard Park are good places to live but it might be hard to commute during harsh winter times. We found two decent look loft in 266 Oak St and 68 Days Park but didn't know if they are within safe neighborhood. Any suggestion?
First, where are you going to walk to?
I would say Days Park is safer -- many owner occupied properties there. [used to be scummy and has revived.] The building lofts which just have tenants mgiht be fine, but they are tenants, not owners. Plus, Days Park is on a bus line
Thanks for your reply. The office is in Pearl street and it will take about 20 min to drive from Amherst or Williamsville. That's why we are considering some loft near by. How is Days Park compared to Amherst or Williamsville?

How safe are they? Depends...how big is your body guard?
So where is the nearest safe place to live? Any recommendation on the apartment?
Thanks.
I would also recommend a newly converted church in North Buffalo, if there any units remaining. It is within walking distance of a major business strip in a good neighborhood, adjacent to 2 bus lines.
I would not rule out Amherst if safety is of concern. It consistantly ranks in the top five (frequently number one) in safety among all US municipalities with more than 100,000 people. Commuting weather will generally not be a major issue for you in the winter more than 2 or 3 days per year, so I would not base my place of residence upon that issue. If it is of a concern to you, parts of Amherst are less than a mile from the UB South subway stop which has a park and ride lot (free). To live on Elmwood or most of North Buffalo would put you just as far in minutes from downtown as Amherst, plus if the weather is bad, you would have to use weather dependent bus service as opposed to an underground train to get downtown.
As safety seems to be a concern I would choose Williamsville, pleanty of shopping in the village on Main Street, uber safe and a short drive to the metrorail if you feel it's too snowy to drive downtown.

Gotta agree with this. My wife commutes from Hamburg to Elmwood & Kenmore everyday. I can think of maybe 3 times over the past 3 winters where the weather caused her commute to be significantly longer than normal (and she was born & raised in Central Texas so its not like she had a bunch of experience driving in snow prior to moving here).
