I believe you are speaking of Parkside. At least that is what I always called it.

Would the 'park' in Parkside be referring to Delaware Park?

Elmwood, Hertel and Amherst (the street) streets are some areas you might like
Also Allentown.

Amherst, NY (the suburb) is nice and safe, but its also your typical suburban sprawl type of area. Edit: Also Id like to add, I think a lot of transplants to this area end up living in Amherst

I moved to Buffalo earlier this year and I love it!

According to the New York Magazine, Buffalo is the next new place to place if you are up for a move! Check out: The Degentrification of Red Hook -- New York Magazine

Also, if you are considering living anywhere near Downtown/Elmwood Strip, you need to check out the E:Strip community --> e:stripâ„¢ - Buffalo, NY's Original Neighborhood Blogging Community (estrip v5.0) - Buffalo Blogs in the Elmwood Village. We are a friendly neighbourhood community and love new members who are enthusiastic about Buffalo and have a positive outlook!

Good Luck with the move!

Amherst is your safest bet. Just read the buffalo news and see what areas the crimes happen in and avoid them. If I moved back it would NEVER be in the City of Buffalo, I was forced to live there growing up and ugh. It's not what it was before. The Elmwood area can be hit or miss too. It's a little iffy in some parts. Sweeth Tooth is a great coffee/dessert shop on Elmwood.

For that amount of money, you could def get what you want. There are really nice homes in the village of Williamsville to walk to shops and browse, nice restaratunts, from jeans to dress ups. Close to downtown, and other areas of interest - just get the dog for companionship, don't worry about anything else. Moderator cut: realtor soliciting

Default Med School at Buffalo

I am also considering a move to Buffalo and know nothing about it. Is the area directly around the Medical School safe? What is the name of the closest public grammer school to the Medical School?

The Med School for SUNY Buffalo is on South Campus ( city) and in the medical corridor (downtown) for the hospitals.

If I were you, I would opt to live in Amherst for the schools rather than in the city of Buffalo. Physically, the closest public school to the Med School (South Campus) which is in the city is Highgate Heights (#80). If you go into Amherst, depending on your direcction, there are several schools.
