In the process of possibly selling a house in Getzville but there is a possibility that this is a "sinking home". I live in Tonawanda and knew of the problem in Amherst/Getzville, but hadn't paid any real attention until now. Are there multiple areas that contain these homes or are they limited to just one area? What was the resolution, if any, of these homes? Was/is there any recourse? Do you go back to the town, the builder, the previous homeowner? Am having a structural engineer come out to look at the house but needed a little guidance as to how to proceed from that point. Thank you!
I believe it was set to a specific area of Getzville, Amherst area but there could be others. As a Realtor in the area it is very wise to get a structural enginer out to see what can be done. I have seen some home owners in the area just walk away from their homes because they thought there was nothing that could be done. The homes shifted tremendously causing major damage to the homes. I have to ask do you see any signs of sinking. Cracks in foundation anything like that?

The only obvious problem is a crack in the basement floor that runs almost the length of floor and in one corner the floor seems to dip a little. No cracks in foundation.

That is possibly OK but always have a structural engineer inspect the floor as well as the walls, both can be problematic, especially in Getzville.
