Now that is saying something about the local economy considering the fact that Erie and Niagara counties lie on two of the great lakes! Why here in the land locked DFW area, where we have man made reservoirs that the locals call "lakes", we have have two of the larger (not the largest, but still very big) Bass Pro shops in the nation.
There is a Bass Pro opening here when the COVID is over. It should do well as there a lot of sports people here. There is one in Gainsville and Daytona Beach an hour or so away. It will be a mega-store with over 100,000 sq ft.
Not 100% sure, but I've heard that will be closing. There actually is a Bass Pro superstore proposed for Victor, on Rt. 96, and I believe visible from the thruway. The project has been in the making for a couple years now, but without the hype Buffalo got. It is my understanding that when Auburn closes, the Victor store will open.

That could be the case, but I couldn't find anything for sure...
Its seems there is nothing left except the Bass Pro. With the COVID shakeout of retail I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Bass closed. Whether it moves to Victor is unknown at this point.

So, nothing about the Bass Pro closing then...JC Penney is closing a bunch of stores nationwide. What may help is that the Auburn location is close enough to Syracuse and there are quite a few stores across Route 5/20 from the mall.
CK, seems like the Auburn Finger Lakes Mall should be in the Syracuse section. To be honest, I never heard of it until now.
