CHQ County is somewhat conservative to begin with but not overwhelmingly so (about 60/40 GOP/Dem), and I love the area but I happen to be a liberal Democrat, so of course I pay attention to voting stats. Frewsburg is one of my favorite towns in the county, and I always thought politically it would be like most of the rest of the county, but upon closer examination I was surprised that the precinct it’s in is about 75/25 GOP/Dem. That is a bit much for comfort for me, and I was just curious as to why it’s so conservative. Just because it’s rural?

Take that baseline 60/40, subtract Fredonia city proper, maybe Dunkirk city proper, and what are we left with, statistically? Start there for perhaps a truer baseline percentage. If I were to drive into a random Chautauqua Cty small town like Frewsburg, I'd expect some distribution along the lines you mentioned (without having actually done the exercise I recommended to you, lol--but there's a bit of common sense involved here, too. If my suggestions don't cut it, statistically, then uh IDK maybe take a small radium away from the Chautauqua Institution and account for that, assuming there's a year-round population of any significance in that immediate area? Just trying to find the appropriate conjecture without having to do the research myself)

Also while we're at this fun little political guessing game...I'd venture to guess that maybe the part of Chautauqua Cty just south of the county line is less than 60/40 GOP? Not sure if that's actually a good guess but I also don't know how much population we need to account for here. I assume Fredonia proper is majority Dem (college town, former academic posting for the great Neil Post...man ('Amusing Ourselves to Death' being one of my favorite books ever)), but beyond that, I'd have no faith in any municipality being majority Dem, so the back-of-the envelope/brain math is interesting to me. I see you're likely from downstate so although I'd defer to whatever local knowledge you may have I assume my 30 miles-away-fake-knowledge is greater.

This is likely why. The thing is that people have a variety of reasons as to why they vote the way they do. Some may do so due to perception of business interests or for certain rights like gun ownership. so, it just may come down to what are the interests of the people that live there. Perhaps there are quite a few hunters in the town, as an example.

Also, I think people have to be careful to automatically equate Republican with Conservative and Democrat with Liberal, as people aren't necessarily that strict in terms of there views about everything.

I'm seeing more and more posts like this lately. Puzzling and troubling.

OP why are you uncomfortable about? What's the difference where a county leans Democrat?

NYS is a liberal bastion with a "progressive" Democrat government. What difference does it make if there are a few pockets of Republican/Conservatives scattered around?

It would make a difference if a person wanted to go there and not be stared at like they have 4 heads

So sad that everything is now like this.

Conservative = racist homophobe

Liberal = transgendered abortionist

When 90% of America isn't like that, at all. Just the far fringes on either side. What a country we've made for ourselves.
