I'm thinking about moving to Niagara Falls but from what I've read on here everyone seems to think that's a bad idea.
I want to move to the area (no place in particular) because my boyfriend is moving to Toronto for school. I'm graduating from college in December and would like to move up next spring/summer (2010) but I'm not at all familiar with the area.
I'm from a very very very small town rural area and wouldn't like to live in the city. Right now I'm living in a town next to Fargo, North Dakota (yeah - small!).
I have no idea where I should be looking for a place to live.
Also I'm graduating with a degree in education (social studies and art) but I'm definitely not looking for a job in that field. I currently work for a company that helps people who have disabilities and I love it. I'd like to find something along those lines but not sure of companies in the area.
For an apartment I'm just looking for something small in a nice(ish) neighborhood. I have a small dog (6 lbs) as well. Is it possible to find a decent enough place ($600 a month?) in a nice, safe area?

As for places to look, try Sanborn, Lockport, Lewiston and maybe a nicer part of Niagara Falls like possibly LaSalle, DeVeaux and maybe the Echota area.
We don't say it for no reason (I know it's a double negative, sorry). It is run down and full of crime. I would honestly look at some smaller towns in the area, Gasport, Lockport, Springville, Arcade, Olcott.
In all honesty, Toronto is 1.5 hours away from the border (to downtown), living 30 minutes further away is worth it to avoid Niagara Falls.

My sister lives in Niagara Falls. Her and her husband are raising a kid there and they are in a good neighborhood. I don't know all the neighborhoods well there, but you take a right off the Grand Island bridge and the areas around there are decent, clean and there are some decent mom and pop shops.
I do agree with the falls area, you really need to be careful. I don't want to rant, but I wish the state would invest some money into this city, as big a tourist attraction as it is, the city should be kept up much more than it is.

Quick question: Has the casino helped the city and its residents?
Quick question: Has the casino helped the city and its residents?
I read recently that the city will use their share of the casino money to fix roads. They need it badly. Other than the cash that's paid to the city and some jobs I would have to say the casino has been no help to the city so far.
