I say you staple some plastic over it and call it a day! I've had about the same amount of luck trying to get my driveway grated and some painting done. People flaking out. I want to pay them they just need to show up and do it. At least the driveway guy told me he didn't have time, I had a good one for this but he seems to have moved on.

I've had good results with a plumber and a boiler guy, but everything everything else has been a fiasco in one way or another.

My husband is hired by clients on LI to work on their homes up north because they, too, have experienced either the slow responders, sub parr workmanship, disappearing trades. We literally pack up the crew for a week or two to work up there.

Locally we have found a good electrician and plumber.

Ive found a good person in VT, not in NJ. Just my experience. so what happens is we keep hiring different people and LITERALLY each is worse than the previous... WOW.

have you seen "the hansen files" on TV. I dont have a TV @ home but i watched when i was away for work at a hotel. I must be a sucker because I get people like this all the time and I am usually too busy to sit over their shoulder to watch them.

I hired a guy to fix all of our doors (they were all sticky/sagging, uneven reveals) and after he left I noticed half of the hinges were upside down. You can't do that by accident!!!!!!! I caught most of the other ridiculous things he did, like install the key hole on the inside of the exterior door. He put one of the thumb turns upside down. I thought the guy must be on crack. but this is what I deserve for not doing my home work.

I had an electrician in VT do half a job, then not show up for the rest, after poking 3 huge holes in my wall. Was supposed to be a reputable company too.

I am so fed up with house work. I told my wife I want to stay in our condo as long as possible. I am so sick of all the thing that break in a house and don't have time to fix it.. or even time to get proper multiple estimates to figure out that I'm not going to get screwed.

When we have to move up, I want it to be the most maintenance free home I can figure out how to buy or build. Tough though with all of the technology that we rely on.
