"National grocery store chain Whole Foods (WFM) has stopped accepting paper checks at some of its 300 locations, including five locations in North Carolina this week, reported the News Observer. "

Some Whole Foods Stores Stop Accepting Paper Checks - DailyFinance

Hopefully you dont have bank of america. Now you cant use a debit or check.

I imagine less then 5% pay by check. I try to avoid lines when I see someone whip out a check book.

I really hate waiting for somebody to write a check. It irks me and I feel like they are stealing my time, and then I drive home and watch tv.

AMEN!!!!! How many times have I been behind someone checking out 200 bucks worth of groceries only to have them wait until the entire transaction is complete before even LOOKING for their checkbook? I mean, really people....is it so hard to do a little pre-writing while the cashier is scanning your groceries instead of twiddling your thumbs or checking your text messages? I am really excited to hear this news!

People still write checks?

I don't think I've written a check in over 3 years - haven't been inside a bank in over 5 years!

Exactly what I was thinking, NRG! A few years from now we might be asking, " People still use CASH??!!"

I can top all of your stories - I was behind someone at the self checkout at Harris Teeter the other day and she PAID BY CHECK. Yes, at the self checkout. No, she wasn't 80 years old. She probably in her late 30s. I was so shocked I almost forgot to give her the death glare. IT TOOK FOREVER and she seemed surprised!?

I really hope she never goes to NY and tries that - I was thisclose to saying something to her but decided I needed to keep my inner New Yorker in the bottle.

Smart.

IMHO, people that tie-up the check-out line paying for a $1 pack of mints with a debit/credit card are more irritating than the check-writers.
