It's possible for an area to be ethnically diverse and conservative and likewise it's possible for a place to be liberal in politics but racially homogeneous. However that's not always the case. So my question, as one who would like to vacation in the state along the pacific is what are the most conservative areas(if I were to live there, I like a more conservative area, not redneck, but not overtly liberal).

Pretty much all the farm counties are conservative in the Central Valley except if there is a large city or university [ie. Fresno\ Sacramento\ Chico]. No urban area is conservative with the exception of Orange county. The eastern-most region\ Sierra Nevada mt counties are also conservative and that area is quite beautiful. Also the extreme north end counties bordering the Oregon border are fairly conservative.

California is a huge state. If you are talking about vacationing the central valley is conservative but not great for vacationing. The coast lines are inclined to be more liberal, but San Diego and La Jolla are probably more conservative. For living, Orange county of course and some parts of San Gabriel Valley lean conservative. I don't know how many are ethnically diverse and still conservative or visa versa, probably San Diego would come the closest.

Why would you care about the politics of an area that you're only planning to visit for vacation?

I'm just trying to get a feel. It's no different than someone wanting to go visit New Orleans wanting to know about the politics there, b/c some people like a more liberal environment, others like to be where there are more traditional values. Know the politics could be a big help.

Vacations could be a good time to see how the other side lives.

Vacations could be a good time to not think about politics.

The only things I care about when I visit NO are best restaurants, lodging, and interesting things to see and do. I and everyone I know don't give two sh*ts about liberal or conservative during a visit.

Get out of your comfort zone fersrissakes.

You're trying to parse an awfully fine line there, aren't you? If we eliminate the Redneck Empire, what's left is mostly moderate to progressive.
