Cautious Optimism is still the rule, but this is awesome

Quote:

October "marks the first solid month of recovery for the California economy," said Stephen Levy, director of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy in Palo Alto. "If these gains are confirmed in the following months California will have finally turned the corner toward job growth and reducing unemployment."

Leading the way was professional and business services, which added 14,800 jobs, followed by trade, transportation and utilities, which increased by 7,600 jobs. That sector includes retail jobs, which were up 4,300 over October 2009, a sign that stores are hiring again in anticipation of better holiday sales.

Other gainers included manufacturing (7,100 jobs), education and health services (5,200), leisure and hospitality (4,400) and government (2,800). Even the weak construction sector added 2,500 jobs.

Great news, always good to see that we are gaining jobs and lowering the unemployment rates.

I find it odd that the whole state is lowering the unemployment rate except for Fresno. I wonder why that is?

Sadly, some will accuse the OP of being politically motivated but the news is wonderful regardless of one's politics!

Our unemployment remains at 12.4% because of job losses in Sept. but this is very promising.

The last two sentences are encouraging. It's good that retail hiring is up for this season but most of those temporary jobs won't be there come January because the sales aren't there.

Seasonal layoffs for agriculture always start in October as harvests end for crops such as the different fruit varieties. That is normal and offset the increase in hiring in other types of employment in Central Valley counties.

Non-farm jobs in Fresno County increased by over 2,100 jobs in October but the end-of-season farm layoffs were larger than that.

But that increase in non-farm jobs is a good sign.
