I've been through all the big cities in CA and of those probably like SF through the Bridges for that kind of view.

But I really prefer the smaller to mid-sized towns as far a main street type view for walking, etc...

I really like downtown Monterey. I was just walking through downtown on Alvarado St. about a month ago during late Fall. The maples lining the streets were turning color and our kids were having a blast collecting leaves and watching them fall. Then if you keep walking you can get to the marina and look at the boats and sealife all within pretty close proximity.

Here are some more shots of Monterey and vacinity during a classic car show: http://www.khulsey.com/stockphotogra...-car-show.html

Downtown Carmel is pretty nice to walk as well with a lot of cool art galleries and various shops.

Derek

Monterey, Carmel, Cambria, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, but the old gold rush towns are great too, I do like Nevada City.

Nice picture. I was on Sperry Ave three months ago. How far away is Sperry from the downtown area in your photo?

I'm biased because I grew up right next door in Goleta, but there is nothing prettier to me than the beach with the mountain backdrop.

Gauchos for me too. My most memorable years was living in Santa Barbara while attending UCSB there. The weather year round was simply amazing.

Sperry is in the industrial park section. The picture is California Street from Poli.

About 6 miles west of Sperry

I'll second the Petaluma vote:

George Lucas loved it for American Grafitti

Francis Ford Coppola loved it for Peggy Sue Got Married

Gary Ross loved it for Pleasantville

Lawrence Kasdan loved it for Mumford

...to name a few.

Hard to argue with any of these....surprised I didn't see any "nordic" pix of quaint towns and a snow background??? Keep the pictures coming...Happy New Year!
