Another great place is El Jacalito on Main St. in Lamont, or at least it used to be. I haven't been there for several years, so it could have changed.

I like Carrillos in San Fernando when I'm in the mood for tamales. Theirs are my favorites. Their carnitas is pretty good, too.

When I'm in the mood for flame broiled chicken, I almost always go to El Pollo Gordo, also in San Fernando. This is a great place to get a party platter if you ever need such a thing. I've placed orders for 40, 80, 100, or even 120 pieces of chicken with rice and beans, tortillas, and salsa, and felt the price was very reasonable. The chicken is excellent, and I've also had the tacos which are also very good.
Thanks for telling me about the one in East LA,I'll make a point of going

Every time I go to visit with family, we usually go to El Torito (or a steakhouse). They have awesome food!

Ya, the best Mexican food resturaunts aren't exactly meeting the Health & Safety code requirements either. Not by a long shot.

I just returned from camping in El Capitan (up 101 past Goleta, 10 miles or so)
We were dying for some Mexican food, and asked the campground employees what they thought.
They all said Pepe's in Goleta (exit Fairview, go south, first left then right on Orange), so we tried it out.
It was very good, your typical Californian Mexican joint.
Fresh food, good portions, carne asada was tender and flavorful, beer was ice cold
There were 10 of us, and the bill was $115 before tip, that's with 3 of us drinking alcohol. Not bad.

My favorite is El Paso Cantina in Torrance.

you mean Costa Mesa, on corner of Santa Ana Ave and 17th?
classic Mexican restaurant, if you leave hungry, you weren't trying very hard.
We've been eating there since I was a kid.

When I was at San Diego State, we used to love going to Albertos and grabbing a tray of taquitos, the ones covered in that green-tinted Elmer's glue they called "guacamole".
