Way, way more than 2K a month in Marin County for rent for anything decent. A quick craigslist search shows a few one BR studios for 1K, one BR apartments starting at $1700, and some very sketchy districts of San Rafael starting at $1850 for very run-down 2 BR apartments. I see okay but not great 2 BR apartments in Novato, San Rafael, and Terra Linda starting at $1950-$2200 average. The $2,200 might be livable with kids, maybe, but many say they are like 700 square feet.
