State or local delegations are common.

Even New York State is advertising on tv to get techies to consider going to NY to start business.

It happens.

Thank you. like I said in my post, I wasn't sure if this was common in other states. Now, is CA doing this same thing?

I don't think they grasp the concept of recruitment.

No they would rather fool us into thinking that increasing taxes will solve the problems and businesses will just relocate as fast as they can to CA.

For a state the size of CA I am shocked at the lack of incentives it gives to businesses. What does it do with all of the freaking money it takes from us?

TX gives a boat load of incentives to businesses. And this is a state that does not even have a personal state income tax. Go figure!

When I worked for Wal-Mart they (the DOI, trade people, and Gov's office people) scheduled a meeting my boss and the risk manager of Wal-Mart had to attend. They wanted to know plans and where Wal-Mart was going to expand city by city and how the claims operation was going to be handled. They did require that Wal-Marts claims operation be in state, instead of being handled in Bentonville. This was important as we had to open up a liability office at the Porteville distribution center where we were located.

I imagine it still goes on, whether we send out trade delegations or make them come to CA.

So it wouldn't be unusual in the least to me.

That wasn't what I was asking. I asked if CA did it. That is, what you cleared up for me others couldn't. Does CA recruit in the same fashion as these other states. Not a particular company.

The evidence says that 0.3% of the jobs lost in CA in 2012 came via job relocation. From 1992-2006 lost 1.7% of its jobs via job relocation.

Minuscule numbers in the grand scheme of things.

As for population--the numbers suggest that CA is no longer booming, not that its in permanent decline. CA is a transitional state by nature, people move in and out all the time. Ironic that the state that sends us more residents every year is...(wait for it)...Texas!
