I think this is one of the most northerly of the Giant Sequoia groves. Its interesting how they just pretty much stop just north of there, even thought the climate and soils are not tremendously different all along the Sierra (a little more precipitation in the north).

I really love Armstrong Redwoods in Guerneville. I know it's not a huge park or anything, but it's very lovely. It's closeness to Santa Rosa makes it perfect for a quick hike and picnic for my family. I would love to check out some of the redwood parks farther away, especially north of Mendocino. I never fail to be impressed by those gorgeous trees!

as an ex-native, i think i went to armstrong grove once in my life. other than that, every redwood i hung out with wasn't in a "park". there's a billion of them from santa rosa all the way up to the oregon border. ooooodles to wander thru without having to pay "park" fees. i can't say one place was better than another as they were all magnificent.

if i could get redwoods to grow in nv, my backyard would be a forest

You're talking about Gigantea, not Sempervirens, right? The northernmost range is between Tahoe and Lassen, around Placer County. Maybe there's some stray individual tree somewhere, idk.
