For those interested in Chinese puzzles -- and California cows ... what a conundrum! The report starts off sounding like a great opportunity for California dairy farmers ... but devolves at the end as a nightmare of pollution and escalating costs of feed, which costs are already choking the industry to death:

I eat cheese quite often, but my weight is going down because my carb intake is very low. Personally, I'd like to see more high carb foods, particularly those with wheat filler, get sent to China so their health suffers and there's less global job competition.

Um...guys, can the Chinese digest dairy? I know a lot of people in that part of the world who can't. Lactose Intolerance City! They invented soy milk and Tofu (soy "curd") for a reason, you know. Some "minorities" in China who come from a herding tradition (Mongols, Turkic peoples, Tibetans) subsist in part on dairy, especially during the summer months. But many Han Chinese, Manchus, and some other nationalities can't tolerate dairy.

The Chinese diet is high in white rice. Diabetes is a real issue as a result.

A lot of us Asians are lactose intolerant, but the fact is that the process of making cheese turns lactose into something else, so it's not an issue. Hard cheese are usually fine.
