A car can get damaged being shipped, too. I had one shipped from TN to CA when I moved back here at one point. The paint job got really faded going through the desert. Should have waxed it. It was old, but still...

A tenant in my building had their car shipped from Atlanta to CA and it was damaged, too. Just dents and dings, but it's something to consider.

As others have said, CA has such high emission standards, you might as well just buy one here. And the rust issue is true, too. Also, if you're coming to the Bay Area, there are so many cars, that supply and demand should be in your favor price-wise.

The purchase price and the price for shipping is something I would consider. As for taxes, CA DMV collects the difference between the MA sales tax and the CA use tax for the city/county you live in (upwards of 9%).
