I'm curious how many will actually get the license. We've heard that the police can't get any cooperation from illegals since they're afraid they'll be deported if they talk to authorities. So I wonder if the thinking will be the same...if they get licenses and insurance, they'll be "flagging" themselves as being here illegally. We know that doesn't matter because God help you if you actually enforce the immigration laws, but the illegal themselves seem to want to stay under the radar.

And what if they don't get licensed? Then what? Los Angeles already dropped their policy of impounding cars if they find illegals driving. What agency in California is going to do anything to them? They're more likely to get a hug from California authorities.

California used to have sanctuary cities. Apparently we've transitioned from that to being a sanctuary state.

It's ridiculous. Here we go again with the Fed/State battle over this.

[quote=pch1013;31396991]This way the state will know where all of the "illegals" live. And this is a bad thing because...?[/QUOT

Please, barely a fraction will do this. The same as paying taxes or having an itin number. It costs too much to insure and register vehicles for the extreme poor in CA. Any illegal alien that could have afforded coming here legally already did.

You're everything that's wrong with this country.

There has always been an underclass and there always will be. Getting upset over it means nothing more than you either have skin in the game or in for a hard knock education about how life works. I'm guessing the illegals here have life one heck of a lot better than they did before they came across.

A suggestion if you don't already have it, look into non-owner's insurance. It's quite cheap and covers you on both borrowed and rental vehicles. Bats buying a car rental company's over-priced insurance to cover yourself.

We carried it during four of the years we lived downtown without a car by choice after ours was totaled by a red light runner.
Didn't know such a thing existed. Thanks curm, will look into it.

Ok ... took the better part of the day but I finally got my tongue out of my cheek. Yes, 'tis true, I confess: Canada is actually probably the finest country on the face of the earth -- except for the damn weather.

Now, that admitted, you still have to watch out for them Canuck's ... they'll steal California's sunshine and fruit and nuts in a heartbeat if given half a chance.
