NH native here. Spot on. I just moved up to Washington from CA and it's the same here. Some colors in some areas but nothing spectacular. CA has plenty of spectacular beauty. New England doesn't have anything like Yosemite. The New England coastline is pale compared to much of CA. Yeah, I know about Acadia NP. CA has the redwoods and the Sierras. But when it comes to foliage....New England and the rest of the east coast from NC up rule. It was my favorite time of the year. The one time when I can't think of anyplace more beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. You have to be there to appreciate it.

I tried getting my foliage fix in CA and now in WA. It just didn't cut it.

Yosemite is pretty right now. A huge percentage of the state is. We just don't build houses there.

I've noticed in the NW and in CA, the fall foliage show seems to be more varied from year to year than it is on the east coast/TN. Some years, like this one i think, it is just as spectacular, at least in some areas, imo.

In October made the annual trek to Lake Tahoe. Up 395 with side trips up Bishop Creek Canyon, the June Lake Loop, and Mammoth Lakes. Home a different route, Hwy 50 to 49, south through the Gold Country. Every place I drove there was fall color, many spots quite scenic.

Native trees, not so much. But where people have planted ornamental trees you can have a pretty colorful fall. Up here in Oroville there are a lot of Chinese Pistache, Liquid Amber, Pin Oaks and Crape Myrtles. Basically, lots of red and orange color right now.

We get colors without freezing our asses off. We'll take the tradeoff.
