I'm surprised that no one mentioned the missions. My favorites are the restored Carmel Mission and Mission San Juan Bautista. Many of the locations mentioned are named after the missions.

I always think of Big Sur, Muir Woods, and Yosemite. Of course, that is after LA, San Francisco, and San Diego respectively.

Big Sur, Yosemite, Sequoias, Pinnacles, Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake, Eastern Sierras, Bodie, Capitol building Sacramento, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monarchs at Pacific Grove and Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Beaches, San Luis Obispo, Missions, Redding Sundial Bridge, Mendocino Coast, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Zzyzx, Mojave Desert, San Diego, Downtown LA, Santa Monica, SF, Point Reyes, Sonoma and Marin County Cheese tasting, Santa Barbara Coast, San Luis Obispo, Hearst Castle, Chico, Beer tasting the microbreweries all over the state, ETC ETC ETC ETC

Basically all theres tight stuff in over California with the exception of Orange County and the Central Valley.

This is such a broad question it is almost unanswerable. However, I will throw in the Lone Cypress and the Avenue of the Giants (and all the other old growth redwoods).... California is known for its trees as much as its coastline.
