You see I don't believe that. That is exactly why Republicans do not get elected, they are almost like Democrats. Moderate Republican is a just a RINO. People vote for the same because they are used to it. What you have with the Democrats is a lot of fringe movements all working together to get elected. Most of these people would never sit down and break bread together other than the fact that they are Democrats.

If people would wake up and realize that all they have to do is vote the changes would happen here in California. The Republicans have to create a platform not only here locally but on a national level that people can understand and get excited about. You want to know why the Republicans won the Senate and still have control of the House? It is because people are upset with the Democrats and what they have done to this Nation of ours. In time those people will forget and stop punishing the Democrat party. In time they will be back in power Nationally and all because the Republican's fail to realize that Conservatism works. Forget being Moderate, forget siding with the Liberals. Don't run scared because you will lose an election. Be Conservative, have a back bone and help us get this State and Nation back on track.
No I think it was the low voter turnout that got Republicans elected. Voter turnout in 2014 was the lowest since WWII - The Washington Post

In 1995, there was a Republican governor and the Republicans actually had a majority in the state assembly for two years. The Democrats had a small majority in the state senate. It might as well been a million years ago on another planet. Can't see that ever happening again in California.

This can only be said, by someone that has no problems. What about the other people. California has by far the highest poverty rate in the Nation. San Francisco has a poverty rate of 23.4%. Los Angeles poverty rate 26.9%. And when you look at the state poverty rates by county, you see the highest poverty rates in the entire nation are largely along the coast in what people brag about as being the greatest area in the nation.

You may not care about what is happening and think that nothing is broken, but how about all those poor people in California that are suffering due to the high rate of poverty in the state.

And the changes in California.....People fleeing the state. For the last 9 years, more Californians have left the state of an average of over 200,000 residents leaving every year, than have entered the state from other states. California keeps growing in population, but that is caused by immigration from other countries a large percentage of them being illegals.

Rich People Leaving California for Mysterious Reason | FrontPage Magazine

A lot of those Californians leaving, are just following the jobs that are leaving California. Companies like Toyota leaving, and Apple building it's new computer facility in Texas. And Tesla putting it's new battery factory in Nevada. These thousands of jobs are hurting California as they are now in other parts of the country.

Why Are Companies Leaving California?

Why Are California's Businesses Disappearing? - Businessweek

The big point is, the businesses leaving California and the California companies opening new facilities out of state, are hurting California and one reason the unemployment and underemployment rates are as high as they are. Also one reason for the high poverty rates around the state.
Why Are Companies Leaving California?

California is now solidly locked into the Democratic party in control. One reason is that the non white voters especially Hispanic are solid Democrat Voters. The White population is now less than the Hispanic population, and the gap is growing every day as more white residents leave. And White Flight as it is known, has been going on for years.

All of this hurting California for the future even more than today. The problem is that so many people in California that are doing just fine, refuse to look at the problems the state faces. I personally would like to see California turn around and start to prosper. It is my home state as my family on both sides were in California by the middle of the 1800s, and I have a lot of family there. But as long as people like the link at the start of this post said, many people are still wearing rose colored glasses, and refuse to admit the state has problems.

His statement said: In California, many of us think everything is great. So why fix something that many of us don't feel is broken?
Great post.
I would also add the reason most people seem happy with current system beside those that benefit from it is for most part they don't finance it, 1% of population pays for 50% of income taxes plus taxes they pay through their companies and payrolls.
You can argue its ok to steal from rich that's another topic but the problem is the huge waste of money and the abuse of system you see around.

Most of my friends are professionals earning between $80k-$250k. They have similar beliefs as me, which I think represent the majority of America.

We are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. The problem with Republicans these days is they are so far right when it comes to social issues such as same-sex marriage, abortion etc. The other problem that we see is they are too quick to use military force, they would rather invest more money into the military rather than education. These issues outweigh the fiscal policies, which is why my friends and myself tend to vote Democrat in every election.

We have a bunch of rich upper middle class and upper class and a bunch of working class democrats in government and unionized jobs that want their minority voice upheld. At least Jerry Brown is "somewhat" fiscally conservative.

But who are we kidding, I can't wait until he is out. I'd rather have Arnold back.

But if your professed wish is to "get me out of california [sic]", then why concern yourself with whom the head of state may be? And wherefore does it occur that a bunch of rich people don't own a state government?

Most of those articles are more than a year old. The few that aren't are opinion pieces, not news articles.

There has been dramatic improvement in the state's economy in the last year.

I think this is why Jerry Brown has been so successful. He's fiscally conservative and somewhat of a Libertarian when it comes to social issues.

I agree with this assessment of JB. I didn't like him the first time in the '70s but have to say he hasn't been too bad this time around. He's much more conservative than he was back then. Go figure.
